Wind power

The wind power plants are quickly joining the front runners in the renewable energy sources group. There are a few geographical zones in Bulgaria that are suitable for the construction mainly of medium-sized wind turbines. The research and the design of such facilities must be done very carefully and conclusively due to the specifics of the wind energy.
Wind turbines near the Kaliakra. Several qualities make wind, respectively energy extracted from it indispensable: it has in abundance is cheap, virtually inexhaustible source of energy does not lead to pollution and climatic anomalies, lack of operating costs associated with the purchase of fuel and others. This implies a rational and please use it in Bulgaria.
The first energy-related wind turbines to the public electricity network works in Aheloy.  It is part of a project for energy security of the cattle ranch, which is implemented with the support of the Government of the Netherlands. The first Bulgarian investor build and put into operation electric wind plant consisting of a turbine with 225 kW power in 2003 in 2004 were the next constructed a dozen wind turbines.
In Bulgaria, currently under development are projects for wind power plants with total capacity of about 1000 MW, which is due to "favorable", created by the Energy Act. Although "started from scratch" a few years ago, wind energy is gaining momentum rapidly in our country.Favorably in this direction reflect climate trends observed in Bulgaria over the past 30 years, namely to increase wind power and reducing precipitation. This is due to global warming, deforestation and progressive country.
Wind power market in Bulgaria is constantly evolving, and market conditions in different regions require more thorough investigation. At the end of 2008 were installed only about 140 MW. The fact that this market is relatively new, makes it attractive for Global Wind Power as the development of projects is possible at an early stage.
Favorable wind conditions in Bulgaria is mainly in the northeast of the country, while the wind resources in regions of central, western and southern Bulgaria are very scarce studies performed. However, these areas are expected to be less attractive to the northeast coastal areas along the Black Sea.
25 new wind farms are built near Kavarna by the Austrian company EVN Naturkraft - a subsidiary of EVN, dealing with production of electricity from renewable energy sources. Energy from Kavarna Wind Farm will be transferred to NEC's network of 110 kV substation through a separate, which EVN will build.
